Esteban Pastorino
By combining his engineering and photographic background, Esteban Pastorino’s production is oriented to research on photography devices. This artist modifies the way in which the camera works, retrieves the stereoscopic technique or even uses a kite to obtain aerial images; in this manner the traditional photography is subverted and the photographer’s scope is widened. In most cases, the devices used from the base on which the point of contact or the settings are decided. Pastorino simply puts these devices into action and, at the end of the process, he selects those copies he likes best. As he is deeply attracted to undetermined situations chosen at random, he works outdoors, where life certainly flows out of one’s control. In a series of lengthened images- obtained by complete exposure of the film- the city becomes a river; in his aerial photographs the city looks like a set of soulless scale model buildings. Pastorino works in the interstice of the space-time relationship, within those paradoxical limits where the most veritable reproduction ends up dissolving every vestige of reality.
